When the Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel opened in September 2012, they sought to offer a contemporary presence in an area that reflects the spirit and energy of the city. The designers chose to incorporate custom Visa Lighting product when updating the Gallerie Bar and Bistro and lobby area that's representative of the Short North Arts District with five different designs and two different lighting sources. The hotel includes a glass walkway connecting it with the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The walls of the lobby feature a custom LED half shade Wall Sconce that is scattered at varying heights throughout, surrounding a spiral staircase. The fixture is ADA at a 4" depth, while being 11 1/2" tall, as well as being tapered from a 4" radius (bottom) to a 2" radius (top). The sconce is Tri-lam 'natural' linen, which is a a three layer shade material, natural color linen backed by styrene and laminated front surface. The lighting creates a simple but elegant statement.
In addition, the theme was carried out with complimenting luminaires that include a twin head version of the LED half shade Wall Sconce located by the elevators for additional illumination. A series of medium based socket pendants in various sizes with matching shade material were integrated into the design. Couplers were provided to connect conduit that fed into either the top or bottom of the fixtures.
