Marquette University's Aitken Reading Room features a custom pendant that supports the architecture, while providing the required illumination for the space. Located on the third floor, the designers envisioned traditional "rolled ring" chandeliers to offer brightness that would compliment the natural light flowing through the floor to ceiling arched windows overlooking the Marquette campus.
The center ring is 57” diameter, designed to hold (8) 5” diameter x 24” high luminaries. Each luminary houses (2) 40 watt, biax lamps which produces the required foot candles in the space.
The 186” overall height gave the designers the ability to display the mounting by creating (4) vertical main support stems. Two sets of floating accent discs were placed along the stems to cause the mounting to become three equal sections. The stems are angled on the bottom third portion of the fixture, providing additional support for the ring. A stepped finial was designed completes the fixture, boasting an overall ambiance of modern technology mixed with traditional charm.
