DMX (short for USITT DMX512-A) is a high-speed digital lighting control protocol. Originally developed for stage and theatrical lighting, DMX gained popularity in general lighting with the advent of luminaires with multiple color channels that would be cumbersome to control using phase-cut or 0-10V dimming or need faster changes than possible with low-speed digital protocols such as DALI.
DMX-controlled lighting (including fixtures, controllers, and other equipment) requires some special attention to wiring and connections for a successful and reliable installation. Our DMX Guide provides information for use when specifying or installing these systems.
